Child Marriage is Child Labour

Child Marriage is Child Labour

Each year on June 12, the International Labour Organization (ILO) commemorates the World Day Against Child Labour to focus global attention on the extent of child labour and the actions needed to eliminate it. We urge the ILO to direct its focus on SDG Target 5.3, which calls for the elimination of "all harmful practices, such as child, early, and forced marriage." For the truth is obvious: Child marriage is child labour within the ILO's own definition. (Photo: UN/Martine Perret)
